Thoughts on Problem Set # 11

37-1 Practice with interference. Technically easy once you understand interference.

37-6 Two source interference of a different system, but one that connects with experiences you might have had. Low moderate difficulty.

37-11 Plug and chug 2-slit interference. Low difficulty.

37-21 Thin films and colors, low moderate difficulty

37-24 Thin films relevant to your life, low moderate difficulty

37-33 Remember we discussed light having a momentum. Now you get to play with that idea a little. Probably moderate to high difficulty since it is rather different from what you’ve seen before.

37-46 Oil slick colors … low to moderate difficulty

38-2 practice with diffraction … more or less plug and chug

 38-5 similar to above

38-28 X-ray diffraction. New to you but very relevant. Plug and chug execution.

38-33 two point resolving power practice. Plug and chug execution once you figure out the relevant distances involved and how they relate to Rayleigh’s criterion.

Interference and diffraction, at the level of detail we will cover it, is not technically hard. However, you need to practice the problems because it is easy to screw things up.
