The mean on this exam is not that unusual for my exams. I do try to give problems with a range of difficulty. I wouldn't get too hung up on letter grades at this point. The messages to take away from this are:

1) if you are well above the mean, things are going very well for you. Keep it up. Don't relax because we will go faster and get into some stranger stuff as we continue this semester.

2) In the end, grades near the mean usually end up with a B in my physics 113 and 114 classes. A grade near the mean on this exam means your approach to the course is probably okay. Look over the exam carefully. Are you missing points because of silly errors? Or is it because you have some holes in your understanding? If it is the latter, you have something easy to work on. Give me more time and fill your holes.

3) If you are well below the mean, now is the time to take realistic look at your time management and how you are approaching this course. A grade well below the mean indicates that something is probably broken. I suggest you check out my troubleshooting guide.
