P113, Fall 2004, Exam 2 Distribution

Mixed results this time.  Many of you did quite well while others had some troubles on this exam.  Everyone makes a few silly errors.  That can drop a grade a bit, but it does not indicate real trouble.  If you are 60 or below, I would spend some time thinking about how you are approaching this material.  Now is the time to make changes if you plan to do so.   This course does not give you much breathing room from here on out, so you'll want to kick it up a notch now if you have been putting that off.

averages:  p1=6, p2=5, p3=8, p4=8, p5=9,
p6=8, p7=11, p8=9, total=64/100

Remember that the grade used in the grade calcuation will be (70/64) times your grade due to the renormalization.   In terms of how letter grades approximately map onto this curve, I would think of the B range as centered a little above 70 (as shown below, before renormalization).   There is a long low tail that pulls the mean down for this exam.
